AI is already becoming an essential partner in many people’s lives. Lawyers researching cases, teachers preparing lessons, and accountants running projections all rely on AI to provide tangible support. This trend will only grow. Klay believes AI won’t just be a tool but a trusted companion. Our children will grow up alongside AI. Whether they become farmers or scientists, their lives and careers will be deeply intertwined with AI. What kind of AI do we want our children to live with?

Klay’s mission is to develop AI that is safe, ethical, and evolving. He wants to build a partner, a co-creator, and a friend. Pico is a baby AI designed to learn and grow over time. Typical models expand through the post-training, but Pico evolves continuously through interaction and learning, embodying the three core principles:

•   Agency: AI that can think independently, making decisions grounded in the developer’s ethical framework.

•   Evolution: AI that can to learn and grow continuously, bridging fleeting experiences into lasting understanding and long term memory.

•   Collaboration: AI that works along side humans and other AIs, fostering innovation through Collective Intelligence Protocol (CIP)—a framework designed to set new standards for AI collaboration.

Klay’s journey is about turning the ideas into the realities. At Goldman Sachs, he led the development of a tax analytics engine that now serves over 70% of U.S. mutual funds. With the collaboration and support from the partners and trusted advisors, he is working one step at a time to bring each of the three core principles into demonstrable reality. A series of public demos is planned starting in 2025 to showcase Pico’s progress—one baby step at a time.
